Vitaco Health (NZ) Limited, the manufacturer of Athena, has identified a labelling issue impacting Plant Protein Shake + Iron. This product remains safe to consume. A sweetener supplied to us as thaumatin, a natural sweetener, was instead sucralose, an artificial sweetener. Sucralose is widely used and permitted in New Zealand and Australia. ​The labels incorrectly identify the sweetener and, in some cases, state that the products only contain natural sweeteners or no artificial sweeteners. We are addressing the impacted product labels and have notified the regulator.

Our formula is made with pea, brown rice and chia protein for the protein to have a complete amino acid profile (similar to whey protein).

Does plant-based protein cause bloating or digestive issues?

Not necessarily. If an individual has sensitivity to peas or corn fibre then the product could cause digestive issues.

Can I use plant-based protein powder during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

In general, we do not recommend that pregnant or lactating women take sports foods & supplements, unless under the guidance of their Healthcare professional, nutritionist or dietician.

Will the added Iron make me constipated?

It is unlikely, but it depends on individual sensitivity. We’ve included Vitamin C, which improves iron absorption and may reduce the risk of possible digestive side effects. If you are prone to constipation, make sure to stay hydrated- water helps prevent the binding effect of iron in the gut.

When should I take it Plant Protein Shake + Iron?
